Messenger Crystal Ordering

I only sell 10 meter conversion crystals.

Any 11 meter or CB crystals I have are not for sale.   If you are looking for CB crystals any of the plug in miniature type used in the crystal controlled CB walkie talkies will work in the One or Two, however you will have to come up with a way to extend the leads to fit the wider spaced crystal socket.

If you are considering stuffing the 10 meter crystals I sell into crystals removed from a Johnson, save the Channel 6 and 19 crystals as they are in big demand by CB radio restorers.

In April 2021 my crystal supplier told me they would no longer sell to me in quantities of less than 3000.  There will be no more crystals available once these are sold.

All prices do not include shipping.  Shipping is usually by first class or priority mail in a padded envelope and mailed from the local post office, usually from the outside dropbox.   Allow up to 24 hours for tracking information to appear after the business day of mailing.  If the order is judged to be too large to be safely shipped via a padded envelope it will be shipped in a small flat rate box which will cost more..

10 meter crystal pairs are $15 for each pair.  I only sell them in pairs.  You will receive one transmit and one receive crystal in a HC49/UM holder with wire leads. 29.000,  29.010, 29.020, and 29.050 are in stock. NOTE:  THE CRYSTALS SENT ARE LABELED 10KHZ HIGHER THAN WHAT THEY OSCILLATE AT IN THE JOHNSON RADIOS.  A 29.010 crystal is sent for 29.000.   Specify the operating frequency when you order a pair, not individual crystal frequencies.

All crystals I supply have a t 20 PPM and 30 PPM.  The CB crystals that were used in the Johnsons must meet FCC specs of  .005% or 50 PPM according to Part 95.965.  This equates to +/- 1.35 khz error from the center frequency of each channel based on 27.000 mhz.   When netted on frequency the supplied crystals are usually within a several hundred hz of each other when compared in different test transmitters after a warmup period of 15-20 minutes.  The farthest off frequency I have seen is about + or minus 800 hz when the high/low crystal difference frequencies are centered, which is well within the tolerances required for Part 95.  Keep in mind the Johnson Viking Messenger radios used a tunable coil in series to warp the frequency and if you have other manufacturer’s crystals in use with the crystals I supply, they may not zero to the required plus or minus 1.35 khz.  Use in any other radios or with other manufacturer’s crystals is not guaranteed to be on frequency or within tolerance.

These are computer clock crystals and smaller than the OEM crystal.  They can be fitted into a gutted HC-6 holder if you want to keep the original look, wired under the crystal socket or pushed through and soldered.  Transmit frequencies can be warped using a series capacitor (18 pf gives about 7 khz raise in frequency)  but inserting a capacitor in the RX circuit lowers drive to the oscillator/mixer tube.

The refurb kit is no longer available.  The cost of parts has increased and I am not restocking any more parts for the Messengers.

I accept Paypal and can invoice you for the total.  Send your Paypal info and how many of each item you want – SPECIFY OPERATING FREQUENCY FOR TX ONLY TO ORDER A CRYSTAL PAIR.   I will invoice you with the total due.  I also accept US Postal money orders.  No other forms of payment are accepted.
